Compounding Systems
Prefer systems that compound over heroics that do not. Build it once so it pays out forever, instead of re-paying the same tax every week.
The Thesis
The recurring move across Kevin's work is to convert effort into a system that keeps returning value without being redone. No One-Off Work is the sharpest instance: the system compounds, build it once and it runs forever, and if you have to be asked twice you failed the first time. Why Systems Over Heroics
Heroics do not compound. The person who holds the whole company in their head is a single point of failure, and the knowledge dies on the next context switch. Forward Deployed makes this explicit: at three to four context switches a day you need a persistent memory that does not depend on what you happen to remember today, so the wiki, the automations, and the skills exist as infrastructure to make the operating mode survivable.
