The Five Pillars
The five things Kevin is building toward. Not a to-do list, a portfolio of a life. Each pillar compounds the others.
Kevin organizes his life around five pillars. They are deliberately spread across different parts of life so no single one can quietly eat the rest, and they are meant to reinforce each other: a strong body makes for sharper work, good people make the hard stretches survivable, and so on. 1. Build
Work at the frontier and ship things that actually matter. Agents and infrastructure at Dedalus Labs, his own projects, and a refusal to do the easy fake version of anything. The bar is craft and ownership, not comfort. See Builder Ethos and Ownership & Agency. Source: User, 2026-06-07
2. Body
Treat the body as a system to keep sharp, not a resource to burn. The base is strength training, held up by sleep, food, recovery, and a willingness to experiment with what makes the machine run better. The point is to never operate on fumes, because everything else degrades when the body does. See Strength Training, Bouldering, Breakdancing, Sleep, Nutrition, Recovery, and Biohacking. 3. Mind and Spirit
Stay relentlessly curious and never go numb to how cool the world is. The "wiki brain" (learning, reflecting, writing things down so they compound), taste, reading, and staying a builder and a kid at the same time. This pillar also holds the quieter inner life: meaning, groundedness, and an openness to the spiritual. See Continuous Learning, Reflection, Creative Hobbies and Play, and Spirituality. 4. People
Take care of every person who built him. His dad and family, his day-1 friends, and everyone who poured into him before he could pour back. Loyalty that money and success do not change, and a standing intent to give back. See Givers, Matchers, Takers and Friends vs Friend Group. Source: User, 2026-06-07
5. Partner
His relationship is the home base the other four pillars compound on. Not a line item competing with the rest, but the thread running through them, the thing that strengthens him to accomplish everything else. He invests in it with the same full-throttle effort he brings to building. See Philosophy on Love and Love Between Builders. Source: User, 2026-06-07
How they fit
The pillars are a hedge against a common failure: letting work swallow the body, or the body and work crowd out people. Kevin's framing is that a life is a portfolio, and the partner pillar is the thread that runs through all of it. Build gives him purpose, Body gives him the engine, Mind and Spirit keep him curious and grounded, People keep him rooted, and Partner is the foundation the rest stands on. Underneath all five sits a boring, diversified financial base (see Personal Finance) that funds the runway to take risks. Source: User, 2026-06-07
Thinking about the far future across all five pillars is what taught Kevin to take the present seriously (see The Memory Bank). Run the tape forward and the part of life that survives is the memories, so the move is to build the long version (see The Long Version) and bank the moments along the way: special days on purpose, ordinary Tuesdays as deposits, the people and partner pillars as where most of the highlight reel gets filled.
