Cursor Origin
Cursor's code storage and git hosting product. The live waitlist page now frames Origin as a git forge for the agentic era. Announced 2026-06-16, available when Cursor opens waitlist access. Source: X/@cursor_ai, 2026-06-16; Source: Cursor Origin waitlist, 2026-07-04
What it is
Origin moves Cursor up the stack from editor/agent into where the code lives - hosting, review, and collaboration - explicitly framed for both teams and agents as first-class actors. With agents authoring an increasing share of commits, a git host built around agent workflows is a natural extension of Cursor's agent surface after SDK, /orchestrate, and Composer. The 2026-07-04 waitlist page says current code velocity has outgrown older infrastructure and lists Origin beside Agents, Cloud, CLI, Automations, Review, Tab, and Marketplace in Cursor's product nav. Release status: hosted waitlist, no public package version or API version yet. Treat it as a watch item until Cursor exposes the product surface beyond waitlist copy. Source: Cursor Origin waitlist, 2026-07-04
Context: the SpaceX acquisition
Origin launched the same day (2026-06-16) that @SpaceX announced it had exercised an option to acquire Cursor (Anysphere) in an all-stock transaction, "with the goal of building the world's most useful AI models." Per the announcement, SpaceXAI had spent the prior months jointly training a model with Cursor, to be released in Cursor and Grok Build — consistent with the Composer 2.5 note that it was trained "together with SpaceXAI." This makes Origin part of a larger vertical-integration push (model + editor + agent runtime + code host) under new ownership. Source: X/@SpaceX, 2026-06-16
Relevance to Kevin
Cursor is Kevin's primary editor/agent harness (see Cursor DX Engineer Application). Origin is worth tracking on two axes: (1) a git host designed around agents as committers overlaps conceptually with the agent-infra space Dedalus operates in (where does agent-authored code live, get reviewed, persist); (2) the SpaceX acquisition + joint model reshapes the vendor he builds on daily. Reference/watch for now — no action until Origin ships and its agent-collaboration model is public.
