Google introduced Spark at I/O 2026 as a personal AI agent that can work in the background, take actions on a user's behalf, and stay under user direction. The launch roadmap also names connected apps and MCP-style expansion as the strategic surface: Canva, OpenTable, Instacart, and more partners were described around launch, with future work including texting/emailing Spark, custom sub-agents, local browser operation, and macOS/local-file workflows. Availability and safety boundary
As of the 2026-07-04 source check, Google's product page says Spark is available for Google AI Ultra subscribers over 18 in the United States and select business users, with expansion over coming weeks. For Kevin, Spark is product-shape evidence for visible personal-agent primitives: tasks, schedules, skills, consent prompts, connected apps, and background execution. It is not a replacement for Hermes Harness (Nous Research), OpenClaw Harness, or Codex Harness (OpenAI) in repo work because the substrate, memory ownership, tool permissions, and inspectability are different.
